The first thing you should do if you find yourself locked out of your home is to take a deep breath and don’t panic. There are plenty of ways to get back in without doing something drastic like smashing a window.

Check Your Home

Start by inspecting the perimeter of your home, look for any windows or doors that may have been left open. You don’t want to draw attention to yourself and look like a burglar, so only look for reachable windows and easy access points. If you’ve a garage, you can check your car keys to see if you’ve the remote control.

Call for Help

If you can’t find an easy access point, the next thing you should do is call somebody who can help, this list should include people like:

  • Family members
  • Friends
  • Neighbours
  • Landlord
  • Roommate

Check to see if any of them have a spare key, if they don’t, they still may be able to let you borrow useful tools such as ladders, screwdrivers or wire coat hangers. You may be able to get inside, using one of these tools.

Call a Locksmith

If you’ve exhausted all your options to no avail and you need Hertfordshire locksmiths to help you out, call a reputable company in the area. Costs will vary depending on the time of the day, location and type of service you require.

Although you’ll have the pay some money to get a locksmith, they are your best bet when it comes to getting back into your home as quick as possible.
