A wonderful way to beautify a property is by laying new brickwork for a patio or driveway. Not only does it create a safer home, but it adds a new style to the property. Block paving is a straightforward process that, when done by professionals, can be time efficient, affordable, and breathtaking.

Laying the Groundwork

The first step is a conversation between the company and the client to determine needs, wants, and any concerns. Advice and service from a block paving company in Leatherhead is the best bet for a professional job. This is the time to sketch out a plan, decide on which bricks to use, as well as a block pattern. The next step is to excavate the area to create a space for the sub-base material. In many cases, the digging goes to about 250 millimetres in depth. Then, the sub-base goes down, as well as any draining supplies that need to be included. The sub-base is usually about 100 millimetres thick and spread evenly across the paving area.

Adding the Blocks

Once the sub-base is dry, it’s time to put up some restraining edges, or kerbs to ensure the bricks are laid properly and don’t overlap with the rest of the property. Then, laying course sand to go on top of the sub-base in a thin, even layer that serves as a bed for the bricks. Next comes the fun part of laying the bricks. There are several laying patterns to choose from, all of which create a lovely impression:

  • 45-degree herringbone
  • 90-degree herringbone
  • Basketweave
  • Californian weave
  • Stretcher bond

The bricks are laid in the desired pattern, jointed together with kiln-dried sand, and completed!
